Vibration Plate
What you should know about vibration exercise machines:
Vibration training sends targeted impulses to the body causing muscle reflexes which stimulate and thereby strengthen the muscles. Since there are up to 50 muscle contraction per second, it provides strength and coordination training which is easy on the joints and only takes minutes. Using vibration training 95 % of your muscles can be targeted whereas conventional strength training only reaches 40-60 % .
Types of vibration:
When buying a vibration exercise machine it is important to make sure that only vertical vibration is applied. Horizontal vibration which is commonly used on many lower priced trainers leads to few positive training results and can even be harmful to your health. There are two vertical vibration modes available on the market, the tilt mode (the right and left side alternate up and down movement) and the flat mode (the whole plate moves up and down). The Pulse Trainer and Pulse Trainer Pro are the only vibration trainers worldwide that feature a combination of both modes in one machine. All other vibration exercisers only offer one vibration mode.
Frequency
For professional use frequencies between 5 and 30 Hz for the pivoting mode and between 20 and 50 Hz for the pure vertical vibration mode are commonly used. Being able to control the training using the frequency is very important to reach the optimum results according to your goals. The frequency can be adjusted in increments of
1 Hz up to 5 Hz.
Amplitude
For comprehensive training a machine with a wide range of amplitudes is recommended. Many trainers only offer one set amplitude. With the Pulse Trainer and Pulse Trainer Pro you have the option of continuous amplitude adjustment in steps of 0,2 mm or 0,5 mm. This allows for more targeted and closer control of your training.
Footplate size:
A larger foot plate allows a comfortable and safe work out. Exercises like for example push ups are more easily carried out on a wider foot plate.
Stability:
The machine should have a firm and secure stand to guarantee that it does not topple over even during dynamic exercises.
The small feet the unit sits on should be adjustable to level any unevenness of the flooring. This not only guaranties a secure stand but also reduces the noise development.
Ergonomic handle bars:
To insure a firm hold in all positions the exercise machine should feature large ergonomic handlebars. Such handlebars allow a firm grip anytime so you can achieve the optimum in muscle exertion and relaxation.
Simple and clear operation:
The machine should be simple and quick to operate. Most of them have a computer that can be controlled easily by simply touching a button to set the parameters like frequency, amplitude and work out time. Some models like the Pulse Trainer Pro feature a touchscreen and are therefore operated with just the touch of the screen.
There are a couple of options for exercises where it is necessary to place the upper body or arms on the foot plate. Some machines have controls in the middle of the center upright or offer a „delay start“ function. After pressing the Start key the vibration starts with a delay of a few seconds, to give the user enough time to get into the correct position for the exercise.
Mobility:
Especially when the vibration trainer is used in your home one should pay attention that it can be moved easily. Integrated transport wheels are the ideal solution.
Vibration load:
The impact of the vibration on the body has to be regulated. Not enough vibration and the payoffs will be few; on the other hand too much vibration can harm the body. Many machines send an unregulated stream of vibration of up to 20 G into the body which might be harmful.
Motorpower:
The motor must be strong enough to generate a consistently strong vibration even for the heavier user. A continuous output of at least 350 watts should be reached. With a weaker motor the vibration is not sent far enough into the body (gets hung up at the knee). High quality models feature the vibration control system, which keeps the vibration constant no matter what the weight of the user is.
